Selleck graduated from Grant High School in and enrolled in Los Angeles Valley Schools. However, he was moved to Southern California University.
He was involved in basketball and other sports at the university. Selleck was a major in business management, but after a drama coach recommended that he pursue acting, he dropped out of college in his senior year. Tom studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse under Milton Katselas.
