I read The Song of Life, translated collection of the short stories of celebrated Marathi writer Vijaya Rajadhyaksha in one sitting. For someone new to Marathi literature, the sensitive stories of middle class spoke to me in such a profound way. The female voice of the various stories take you through inner world as female protagonists make choices on life, love, career, parenting, companionship, marriage, arts, child birth, wisdom spirituality. Personally each story took you into different spaces and life experiences, some that traverse the moment and others stretching across decades. The stories titled Nirvana, illiterate, Song of Life and couple others particularly spoke to me intensely personally as i have navigated life and seen how the women and men i know navigate the urban middle class milieu. The translation is brilliant and transports you into the different characters many of whom remain with you.
