Agatha Mary Clarissa Miller was born on 15th September Her father was a wealthy American man called Frederick Miller, and her mother was Clara, the Irish niece of Frederick’s father’s second wife.

She said her father was a most agreeable man &#;but (he) was a gentleman of substance and never did a handsturn in his life.&#; She received little formal education and was brought up by both her mother and her sister.
